- This illustration shows the episode of monkeys offering honey to Buddha. This is a Jataka tale, according to which the Buddha, in one of his previous lives, was offered honey by the monkey king and his followers after they were inspired by the Buddha's teachings. The acceptance of the gift by the Buddha was seen as recognition of the monkeys' good deeds and reinforced the idea that all beings can attain enlightenment through their actions.
