Description:
An informal group photograph, from left to right, of Forrest Whitaker, Mertie West, Josie Shaw and Agnes Whitaker standing in front of the Tahquitz Lodge in Idyllwild. The group stands in a row and all look to the camera, except for Josie Shaw; she gazes off towards the right. Tahquitz Lodge extends from left to right, at an angle, behind them. The porch and a door to the lodge are visible behind Forrest Whitaker at left. Trees seem to grow through the roof of the building behind Mertie West. A narrow, curved walkway stretches behind the group and in front of the lodge. It starts at left and curves up towards the right, parallel with the lodge. A cabin is visible in the background at right next to the lodge. A sign hanging off of the eave of the building behind the group reads, "[...]ITZ L[...]."

Mertie West and the plane stand in the near distance at center on gravel covered ground. Mertie faces towards the camera, but looks to the left. Immediately behind her sits the small airplane. It is viewed at an angle from the side and faces right. Mertie stands between its right wing and nose. At far right, the tail of another plane juts into frame. Behind Mertie and the plane, a train travels past the airport. On one of the cars, it reads, "ALASKA [RAILR]OAD." Mountains rise in the far distance.

Photograph of Mertie West standing behind a rail and looking out towards the American Falls in Niagara Falls. Mertie West stands in the near distance at center with her back to the camera. The viewing area she stands upon stretches along the bottom edge, curving outward at center. Just ahead of her, a guardrail, lined with mesh fencing lines the edge of the viewing area. Bridal Veil Falls is barely visible flowing in the near distance, below the view point and to the left of Mertie. Beyond it, another view point enters frame at right and extends towards center, disappearing behind Mertie. Farther back, the Niagara River cascades over the American Falls. The Niagara River continues to flow at the bottom of the falls and along the left edge. It passes beneath Rainbow Bridge in the background at left. Mist rising from the foot of the falls obscures part of the river.
