SPANISH: Esta recreación del rito del marcado de las ovejas fue registrada por Juan de Dios Yapita y Denise Y. Arnold, en la casa de Andrés Espejo Antachoque y su familia, participan Pedro Choque Ayca y su esposa. Consiste en las libaciones (waxt'a) que se hacen durante el rito, el momento del marcado en sí de las orejas de las ovejas, el pasar la herencia de animales de padres a hijos y actuaciones del Canto a la Oveja Madre (Mamala paw paw) por las mujeres presentes, y también por Don Andrés, quien imita la voz de una mujer. Todo se desarrolla en la casa de Andrés Espejo Antachoque y su esposa Felipa Sirki Ayca, con los otros participantes: Pedro Choque Ayca y su esposa Asunta Arias Tarque, y la madre de Felipa, Agustina Ayca. El rito está transcrito en el libro "Más allá del silencio: Las fronteras de género en los Andes" (La Paz, 1997), editado por Denise Y. Arnold.<br>ENGLISH: This reenactment of the sheep marking ritual was recorded by Juan de Dios Yapita and Denise Y. Arnold in the house of Andrés Espejo Antachoque and his family, and Pedro Choque Ayca and his wife participate. It consists of the libations (waxt'a) made during the ritual, the moment of marking the animals' ears, the passing of animal inheritance from parents to children, and the singing of the Song to the Mother Sheep (Mamala paw paw) by the women present, and also by Don Andres imitating the voice of a woman. The ritual takes place in the house of don Andrés Espejo Antachoque and his wife, Felipa Sirki Ayca, with other participants: don Pedro Choque Ayca and his wife, Asunta Arias Tarque, and Felipa's mother, Agustina Ayca. The ritual is transcribed in the book "Más allá del silencio: las fronteras de género en los Andes" (La Paz, 1997), edited by Denise Y. Arnold.

SPANISH: Esta recopilación en sonido de cantos cantados principalmente por Asunta Arias Tarque, María Ayca Colque y Lucía Quispe Choque es el resultado de sus entrevistadas con Juan de Dios Yapita y Denise Y. Arnold. Primero Doña Asunta entona dos canciones a los animales (warart'aña): 1. La Canción a la Llama Hembra y sus crías, que se canta en el rio de marcar los animales (k’illpha), En tu senda eterna chullumpi (Wayaway chullumpi). Ella está acompañada por su hija Flora Choque Arias. 2. Then doña Asunta makes some libations (ch’alla) for the new offspring (chitataki, machaq qallutaki), the corrals and so on, and takes a sip of drink before singing the Song to the Mother Sheep, Mamala bee bee (Mamalay, paw paw), again accompanied by her daughter. 3. Doña Asunta’s mother-in-law, María Ayca Colque, then takes a sip of drink and sings the Song for the Female Llama (Mamalita Mamalay) in an extended version, with her husband don Alberto Choque Mamanillo inspiring her in the background. 4. Then Lucía Quispe Choque sings the Marriage Song sung by the paternal aunt (ipala) at the wedding feast (Parlantatay parlantata). 6. Following this, doña Asunta sings her own extended version of the Marriage Song for the newly married pair of doves (Paris paluma). Before starting to sing doña Asunta toasts to the couple as a pair of doves (Paris palumataki) saying “we will drink, we will dance (thuqhurañani), we will play music and sing wayñus (wayñuñani)”. She is accompanied by her daughter Flora and her sister-in-law Teodora Choque Ayca who claps time.

SPANISH: Asunta Arias Tarque es entrevistada por Juan de Dios Yapita y Denise Y. Arnold sobre dos temas: 1. Las autoridades de Qaqachaka y la participación de las esposas en las actividades del cargo que asumen. Nombra el alcalde mayor como el hermano mayor (jach’a jiliri), luego el corregidor, el líder del ayllu (jilanqu), el registro, y los mayordomos (awatiri): con sus nombres de Marka, Kapitana, Ch’uri, Piskala, Candelaria y Animasa. Este último se perdió con el tiempo. Menciona que el alcalde y el corregidor pasan por un año entero su cargo mientras que los líderes de cada ayllu (jilanqu) y los mayordomos pasan este cargo por medio año. Ellos y sus esposas (warmi) deben vestir la ropa de autoridad durante todo su cargo y si no lo hacen, es de mala suerte y mal visto por la comunidad. Entre las actividades del alcalde mayor está el de solucionar conflictos, en que su esposa, la alcalde mamala, también participa como mediadora. Para ser nombrado autoridad, se debe estar casado (parisa paluma); no debe ser solteros (ch’ulla). Sin embargo, para asumir el cargo de postillón y alcalde escolar no se necesita estar casados y las mujeres también asumen este compromiso con la comunidad. 2. Realiza aclaraciones sobre los rezos que le son leídos por Juan de Dios Yapita: a) A Dios aman (Yusaru munani); b) Madre María (Mama Mariya) y c) Awila Achachi. Luego canta rezos que se entonan en la fiesta de Todos Santos: a) Angelito (Anjilitutaki); b) Canción para las almas grandes (Jach'a almataki) y c) El rezo para Dios (Yusa Rispanti). Esta última sección revela el método cuidadoso de Juan de Dios Yapita para trabajar con los entrevistados como doña Asunta en los textos de la tradición oral de Qaqachaka.<br>ENGLISH: Asunta Arias Tarque is interviewed by Juan de Dios Yapita and Denise Y. Arnold about two topics: 1. The Qaqachaka authorities and the participation of their wives in the activities they assume. She names the Alcalde Mayor, considered the older brother (jach'a jiliri), the Corregidor, the Ayllu Leader (Jilanqu), the Registrar and the Mayordomos (Awatiri), divided into Marka, Kapitana, Ch'uri, Piskala, Candelaria and Animasa, although the latter has been lost with time. She mentions that the Mayor and the Corregidor spend a whole year in office, whereas the leaders of each ayllu (Jilanqu) and the Mayordomos spend this office for only half a year. They and their wives (warmi) must wear the clothing of authority throughout their tenure; if they do not, it is considered bad luck and frowned upon by the community. Among the activities of the Mayor is that of resolving conflicts and his wife, called Mayor Mamala, also participates as a mediator. To be named an authority, the person must be married (parisa paluma), not single (ch'ulla). However, to assume the position of postilion or school mayor it is not necessary to be married, and women can assume this commitment to the community. 2. Then she clarifies some prayers read to her by Juan de Dios Yapita: a) They love God (Yusaru munani); b) Mother Mary (Mama Mariya) y c) Awila Achachi.
