-
Photograph of actor Leo Carrillo standing outside of a parade car with Mrs. Will (Betty Blake) Rogers, seated inside. Actress Billie Burke is seated at center; her daughter, author Patricia Ziegfeld Stephenson, is seated at far left. The two are in conversation with two cowgirls on horseback. A male, also on horseback and wearing western attire, is seen in the background. All were participants in the "Roundup of the Stars" parade, part of the Will Rogers Memorial Celebration.
The Will Rogers Memorial Celebration and Pageant was a three-day event with proceeds going to the Red Cross. In 1940, the event coincided with the national convention of the Will Rogers Memorial Highway (U.S. 66) Association. Festivities included a tour of Will Rogers Ranch for convention delegates, a rodeo held at Municipal Stadium, and a nightly pageant held at Santa Monica High School.
