-
Image housed with other negatives from a performance of “Cavalleria Rusticana” at Barnum Hall, May 11, 1952. This is a different performance at the same venue with similar sets. This performance may have been staged the same year.
Opera singers performing the Mass passage from “Cavalleria Rusticana.” Cast members in Italian peasant costumes take up the stage. Several men (including two soldiers) stand behind rows of kneeling women. A priest stands in the doorway of a church as a performer, portraying Lola, sings. The setting is a 19th century Sicilian village. Painted backdrops and sets depict stone and brick architecture surrounding a village square. At opposing ends of the stage are a cantina and a church. Beyond the stage, musicians are viewed in the orchestra pit at foreground. Cast members include Barbara Gholson (kneeling, front, L), and June Moss, (kneeling, second from R). Opera performed at Barnum Hall, Santa Monica.
