- Description
- Program for the celebration of Emancipation Day held at St. George's Parish Church. The Slavery Abolition Act 1833, which abolished slavery throughout the British Empire, came into effect on 1 August 1834. It was followed by 4 years of the "apprenticeship" system. Full emancipation was achieved in 1838. Emancipation Day in Barbados is observed on the 1st of August.
